Two items of interest. We’re always asked if Bill is teaching – the answer is no, but he does have a series of free online lessons recorded sometime back at Salvador Niebla’s excellent bi-lingual English /Spanish Virtual Drummer School. Always worth checking out.
Also good news for vinyl hounds, Roy Harper’s seminal album ‘HQ’ is available in a limited edition vinyl version at the Burning Shed store. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios for EMI’s Harvest Records in 1975, the band comprised Roy, Bill on drums, Chris Spedding (gtr) and Dave Cochran (bs). They launched out on a major UK tour in support of the record that summer. Pictured walking on water in the cover art, Roy could be unpredictable, but ‘HQ’ was released to universal acclaim. Allan Jones in the Melody Maker described it as “a staggering experience with some of the most intense moments Harper has committed to vinyl”. Angus McKinnon in Sounds pleaded that Harper “should not be ignored, under any circumstances”. His plea was evidently heard; the album reached #20 in the UK charts on July 18th.
